Fiat 126 v Fiat 500 Twinair
I’ve had two Air-Cooled Fiat 126s in the past.
Tremendous little cars. Mad as a fish.
The driving experience has been described as “like being followed (not chased, that’s too strong a word) by a small angry lawnmower”
Quirky? Oh Yes!
Example: to start the car, turn the ignition key and then pull the starter lever between the front seats, which mechanically engages the starter motor on the rear-mounted engine..
But the best bit was always the TWO-CYLINDER, air-cooled engine. Mental!
I thought we’d never see anything like that again. Until now..
The FIAT TWINAIR engine as fitted to the FIAT 500 is a TWO-CYLINDER, 900cc piece of lunacy.
OK, it’s not aircooled, OR mounted at the back, but that’s just details.
The fact is that FIAT is making a bonkers TWO-CYLINDER engine again. And this one’s a Turbo.
